Beaches - Ocean Safety and Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard Program
NPS photo Lifeguards protect swimmers at beaches from mid-June through Labor Day. Cape Cod National Seashore manages a total of six ocean beaches in the following towns: Eastham (Coast Guard and Nauset Light beaches), Wellfleet (Marconi Beach), Truro (Head of the Meadow Beach) and Provincetown (Race Point and Herring Cove beaches). All seashore beaches include the following facilities and services: showers, paved parking, rest rooms, changing rooms, drinking water, water quality testing, and lifeguards (late June through Labor Day). Two beaches, Coast Guard in Eastham and Herring Cove in Provincetown, are handicapped accessible and have wheelchairs capable of driving oversand. Did You Know?
The Old Harbor Life-Saving Station in Provincetown, MA is one of the few surviving, unaltered life-saving stations left in the country. The station was built in 1898 and is open in the summer months with a display of rescue equipment, and NPS staff re-enact the historic Breeches Buoy rescue drill.
