Charming communities and stunning landscapes have lured countless artists to Cape Cod over the past century, but their appreciation for this place takes on a diversity of forms. On Saturday, August 9, at the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, see how two contemporary artists express a mutual love of the seashore from their own distinct perspectives in “Capturing the Character of the Cape.”

Internationally-recognized artists Francie Randolph and Thomas A.D. Watson will present a multimedia program encompassing their works and inspirations. After marrying ten years ago, the two artists abandoned the city to live and work in Truro and hone their individual styles. Randolph employs technology in her work, while Watson considers himself a traditional oil painter. Though each works in entirely different mediums, both artists capture the character of this unique place. The program is free, accessible and open to the public.

Francie Randolph is a mixed-media artist who explores the natural environment through patterns, structures and cycles. Randolph’s works have been exhibited locally at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. The DNA Gallery in Provincetown and Miranda Fine Arts in Port Chester, NY represent her work. Thomas A.D. Watson works in both oils and pastels and is best known for his representation landscapes of Cape Cod. He exhibits and sells the majority of his work from his studio in Truro.

Cape Cod

Did You Know?
In the mid-19th century, Henry David Thoreau walked the Atlantic coastline of Cape Cod, recording his adventures in his narrative "Cape Cod". To literally follow in Thoreau’s footsteps today would require scuba gear. Cape Cod’s Outer Beach sees an average erosion rate of close to 4 feet per year.
