Cape Cod National Seashore
National Seashore to Host Concert with Vicky McKee and Jack Pearson of The Shore Thing

Date: September 7, 2007
Contact: Christiana Admiral, North District Interpreter, 508 487 1256

Cape Cod National Seashore Chief of Interpretation Sue Moynihan has announced that on Saturday, September 15th at 7:00 PM Vicky McKee and Jack Pearson of The Shore Thing will present Songs of the Seashore. The one-hour concert, slated for Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, will feature all original music celebrating the diversity of life, love and nature. McKee describes her music as a fusion of Blues, Country and Folk-Rock. Her songs are "mostly about the internal landscapes, and landslides, of human emotions" and "have been inspired by the unique and ever-changing landscape that the Cape Cod National Seashore was created in order to protect." McKee will be accompanied by guitar and harmonica, with Jack Pearson on bass and percussion. The concert will be held in the outdoor amphitheatre or in the indoor auditorium in case of rain. The program is free, accessible and open to the public.

Vicky McKee has been coming to Cape Cod since early childhood. She has spent most of her career as a writer and a journalist, only venturing into songwriting at the turn of the millennium. Many of her lyrics have been inspired by time spent in the dunes and along the backshore of Cape Cod. Her song "21st Century Heroes" is dedicated to Cape Cod’s rescuers, particularly the "Coast Guard rescue swimmers and the lifeguards of the National Seashore." McKee’s sharp and sophisticated lyrics convey her lifelong appreciation of the unique characteristics that define the Cape’s natural and human communities. She recently released a new CD, "Find the Dream."

Province Lands Visitor Center is located off Race Point Road in Provincetown. For additional information, contact the visitor center at (508) 487-1256. Each Saturday during September and October, the Province Lands Visitor Center will host special presentations. A listing of the national seashore’s programs is available at the two seashore visitor centers, or on-line at www.nps.gov/caco.

Did You Know?
The Pamet Cranberry Bog in Truro was once an operating commercial bog. Workers, some of whom in later years were of Cape Verdean descent, maintained and harvested the bog from the 1880s until 1961.
