Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham will be open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, December 24.  The center will be closed on Christmas Day, and will reopen at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 26.

Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham. It is open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The center features an outstanding museum with exhibits and artifacts; orientation films shown regularly throughout the day; a store with books, maps, puzzles, games, and other interpretive items; staff and volunteers available to assist with trip planning; and spectacular views of the Salt Pond, Nauset Marsh, and the Atlantic.

Upcoming ranger programs for families include a presentation on animal tracks and sign on December 26 and a program on horseshoe crabs on December 30.  Beginning Sunday, January 6, and continuing for six consecutive weeks, the visitor center will host classic maritime films, such as Moby Dick, Mutiny on the Bounty, PT-109, and The Old Man and the Sea.  For more information on these programs, call 508-255-3421, or check the seashore website, www.nps.gov/caco.

Did You Know?
In 1959, Massachusetts Senators John F. Kennedy and Leverett Saltonstall introduced the legislation that led to the creation of Cape Cod National Seashore. Two years later, in 1961, then-President John F. Kennedy signed into law Public Law 87-126 which authorized Cape Cod National Seashore.
