Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price has announced that roadwork will begin before the end of February on Moors Road between Bradford Street and Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA. This work will include replacing the roadway pavement damaged by heavy traffic over the years. The Moors Road work, designed in close cooperation with town officials and the public, will be done by Classic Site Solutions, the firm that reconstructed the Province Lands Bike Path last year. The project involves full-depth reconstruction of Moors Road from the park boundary at Bradford Street to Herring Cove Beach, as well as creation of a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians on each side of the road to reduce congestion and safety issues along this stretch of the road. A Notice to Proceed will be issued on February 14 to the contractor, who will begin work by installing sedimentation and erosion controls and other protection measures at sensitive environmental areas. Depending on weather conditions, removal of the existing pavement will begin between February 23 and 28. Moors Road will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles for approximately two months. Work will be "fast-tracked" by the contractor in order to minimize the length of time the road is closed and ensure the project is completed by summer. This project is one of a series of measures being done in Provincetown by the national seashore to improve public safety, enhance recreational opportunities and expand opportunities for the use of alternative transportation. ### |
