Calling All Artists!

Be inspired by our park and inspire those who visit.  Share your talents with the visiting public through Cabrillo NM's Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program.  The monument offers beautiful views, powerful messages, and rich histories for an artist to capture and express through a variety of media.  Steward the mission of the National Park Service through your artistic voice and take our visistors through a journey that expands their perspectives and broadens their understanding of San Diego's abundant natural and cultural resources.

Artists interested in the 2012 AIR position must submit a portfolio of work and a Statement of Purpose no later than the end of the business day on May 20, 2012. Applications can be sent via mail, e-mail, or hand delivered. The 2012 AIR position is scheduled to begin August 2012 and end no later than December, 2012.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and a pool of finalists will be interviewed in June.  AIR positions will be announced in July, 2012.

Volunteer Recruitment

Have you ever had an office with the greatest view of San Diego?

As a volunteer at Cabrillo National Monument you can tell all your friends that you do!  Learn about the variety of volunteer opportunities at Cabrillo NM by joining us for a volunteer recruitment on Saturday, May 26th at 10AM.

Cabrillo National Monument is looking for interested individuals to work with Rangers on conservation projects and educational programming.  Volunteering at Cabrillo is a fun way to gain professional experiences, meet new people, provide assistance in research studies, learn new skills, get out of the house, and support the only National Park Service Unit in San Diego.

From the sophomoric student to the retired professional, Cabrillo National Monument has a volunteer opportunity for you.  The Monument seeks your help in protecting and educating our rich cultural and natural resources to the Public.  Our Recruitment introduces you to the Volunteer-In-Parks program, work assignments at Cabrillo National Monument and the appropriate training need toward achieving your goal.  This two hour session begins in the auditorium and ends with a site tour.  This tour allows you to get connected and inspired by our unique resources.  Journey with a Ranger and get introduced to the sights, smells and sounds of Cabrillo National Monument.  Come on out to the Point and discover this beautiful time capsule of San Diego history.  Come on up and make this your new office!

To contact Cabrillo National Monument staff with questions regarding the Volunteer Recruitment or volunteering in general, contact Tavio del Rio at 619 523 4565 or send emails to e-mail us.

Tidepool Volunteer

Are you interested in learning about life in the tidepools, the results of local research and the important role of the Tidepool Protection Education and Restoration Program (TPERP).  You'll learn the responsibilities of a TPERP Volunteer and get a chance to meet other Volunteer-In-Parks (VIP's).

We need volunteers to be tidepool educators both in and out of the tidepools.  Our tidepool educators help provide visitors with information and are instrumental in restoring the sensitive habitat.  It's through education that the tidepools are also protected from human impacts.  If you don't want to walk through the tidepools, please ask about our new tidepool education table!  We need your help.

Please contact for the next training opportunity Bonnie Phillips at Bonnie_Phillips@nps.gov or call 619-523-4586
