Buffalo National River Provides Ranger Guided Activities

Buffalo National River received an Active Trails grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks. "The National Park Foundation's Active Trail program provides vital funding that supports our national parks as centers of healthy outdoor activity for families and communities across the nation," said National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis.

With the funding from this grant, Buffalo National River is providing a variety of activities this summer and fall. The following activities are available during the week of July 20, 2014.

Explore the Lost Valley to Eden Falls with a ranger guide on Sunday July 20 at 9:30 am. Lost Valley Trail is an easy to moderate 2 mile hike from the trailhead located  2 miles south of Ponca, AR on Highway 43.

Three wild caving opportunities will be available as well. On Thursday July 24 go underground at Silver Hill Cave. Tours will meet at the Tyler Bend Visitor Center at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. These tours are open to anyone 6 years old or older. Tours are limited to 18 participants each.

A ranger will lead you on an underground exploration of Back O'Beyond Cave on July 25 at 9:30 am. The tour is open to 12 participants who are 12 years old or older.For each cave tour all children must be accompanied by an adult. All cave tours are free but participants must reserve their place by calling Tyler Bend Visitor Center at 870-439-2502 prior to the tour. All equipment will be provided. These programs will not be provided during August, but will resume in the fall. Watch for future announcements.
