Heartland Invenory and Monitoring Network

The BioBlitz is conducted jointly by staff from the NPS Buffalo National River (BUFF) and Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network (HTLN) and will be held on October 18, 2014 at the Toney Bend Research Facility near Rush, Arkansas. This event will begin at 9:00 am. Park and HTLN staff, scientists, teachers, students, and citizen scientists work together during an 8- hour event to find and identify as many different species within the park as possible using scientific methods.

The focus group for this event is water mites located within the park boundary. In order to participate as a citizen scientist, volunteers must register as a team member by completing the attached registration form. BioBlitz teams have been limited to 20 members. Please note the minimum age requirement is 12 years of age. For ages 12-18, a parent/legal guardian must be present during all activities. The parent/legal guardian will be required to complete the same VIP paperwork as the participant. Please read the following attached documents carefully and take special note of any safety information:

  • Team Member registration form – Please complete and return as soon as possible as the number of team members is limited to ten (10) per team. Be sure and assign order of preference for team choice.
  • Job Description – Please read as this describes your duties as a volunteer for this event.
  • Volunteer Services Agreement for Natural Resources Agencies AND Photo Release Form –These forms are required to be completed in order for you to participate in the event.
