At about 4 pm yesterday (1/22) a new fire was discovered by NPS staff, burning near the Rush Campground (Marion County). Two NPS handcrews and one strike team responded to the approximately 60-acre fire. The fire is within the Rush Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places listed area that embraces the 19th century zinc mines and mining community. Although humidity remains low and there is no precipitation in the forecast, the low winds should assist suppression actions.

The general closure of the "duckhead" area of the Lower Buffalo Wilderness remains in effect at this time. Please call either the Buffalo Point Visitor Contact Station (870/449-4310) or the Tyler Bend Visitor Center (870/439-2502) for changes in the status of this closure.
