Caring for and keeping in use any historic building is a challenge, and Boston's 300-year-old Old State House, the oldest public building that survives from the original thirteen colonies, presents the perfect venue to discuss such challenges. A distinguished panel of experts will examine key issues in historic preservation, using the Old State House and other historic properties as examples. Questions to be explored include: How can accessibility be improved without disturbing the integrity of historic structures? How can the preservation of a building's historic character be balanced with the need to its utilize historic spaces for exhibitions, events, and rentals? How do changing energy efficiency and building technologies affect historic structures? Moderator Greg Galer, the Executive Director of the Boston Preservation Alliance, will encourage audience participation and dialog with the panel. Co-sponsored by the Bostonian Society and the Boston Preservation Alliance.
