Wild Flower Day offers fun for the whole family on Saturday, May 23rd! Join us for music, dance, a hands-on youth activity and a TRACK (Trails, Ridges and Active, Caring Kids) hike. 10:30 a.m. --- Seed Tapes, a hands-on activity sponsored by FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway 11:00 a.m. --- Traditional dance demonstration by Phil Jameson 1:00 p.m. --- Every Plant Has a Purpose and Place Hike, sponsored by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the National Park Service Come check out our blooming roof which has been planted in native wildflowers! The Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor (Destination) Center is located at Milepost 384 just north on the Parkway from the junction of Highway 74-A and the Blue Ridge Parkway. |

The first contract for work on the Blue Ridge Parkway, awarded to Nello Teer Construction Company of Durham, NC in the heighth of the Great Depression, was for over $316,000. Teer purchased a new steam shovel for the project!
