Mechanics Hall, built in 1857 by the Worcester County Mechanics Association, is one of the nation’s finest concert halls. Over the years speakers such as Charles Dickens and Teddy Roosevelt have spoken here and artist such as Caruso and Ella Fitzgerald have performed on the stage. Mechanics hall is remarkable both as an architectural achievement and as a performance center. Call for events.

John Slater House, Slatersville, RI

After opening America's first successful textile mill, Samuel Slater also helped establish America's first mill village. Slatersville, in North Smithfield, RI, began operations in 1807. His brother John Slater, who lived in the white house seen here, ran the village for almost 40 years.
