Blackstone River Valley Heritage Landscape Inventory
The Corridor Commission recently partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and Quinebaug–Shetucket Heritage Corridor, Inc. to undertake an inventory of heritage landscapes in south-central Massachusetts – the mill villages, river corridors, farms and other places that give the region its distinctive character.

In addition to identifying hundreds of significant landscapes, the project led to the development of a series of preservation planning workshops. Nearly 200 people attended the workshops, including municipal staff, volunteers and concerned citizens. Topics included how to protect local farmland, revitalize mill buildings and become a more effective preservation advocate. Learn more on these topics by clicking on the links below.

Building Support for Landscape Preservation Is there a particular landscape you want to save, a bylaw you would like to see passed or a preservation cause you want to promote?

Keeping Farms in Your Community

Bringing New Life to Mills

For more information on the landscapes identified through the Heritage Landscape inventory and strategies to help protect them, see the community reports, available available online here.

The Corridor Commission is exploring ways to expand this very successful landscape inventory and training program into Rhode Island. For more information, please contact Joanna Doherty at 401-762-0250 or e-mail us
