2013 Teacher-Ranger-Teacher program
The Heritage Corridor is pleased to announce that we are participating in the Teacher- Ranger-Teacher program again this year.

Through the Teacher Ranger Teacher (TRT) program, selected teachers spend the summer working as park rangers. They perform various duties depending on their interests and the needs of the park, including developing and presenting interpretive programs for the general public, staffing the visitor center desk, developing curriculum-based materials for the park, or taking on special projects. Teachers should be from predominantly Title 1 (at least 30% of students on free or reduced cost meals) school districts. Then, during the school year, these Teacher Rangers bring the parks into the classroom by presenting their curriculum-based lesson plan. In April, during National Park Week, Teacher Rangers discuss their summer as a park ranger, and engage students and other teachers in activities that relate to America's national parks.

The Heritage Corridor TRT position is currently open. Applications are due May 30. The successful candidate will receive a $3,000 stipend for the summer. Tasks for the TRT at Blackstone would include:

  1. Create a curriculum based program about the Blackstone Valley's historical significance to our nation or about the environmental concerns and efforts around the improving the health of the Blackstone River.
  2. Participate in events conducted by the Heritage corridor in the Blackstone Valley as required. This may mean staffing the Heritage Corridor's information cart at an outdoor event or a table at an indoor event. It may also mean acting as a "sweep" at the end of a tour conducted by another ranger
  3. Preparing and presenting interpretive programs at one of our partner sites, depending upon the TRT's aptitude and interests
  4. Working with partners on data gathering in support of the development of regional education plan
