Paddle Programs

Big Thicket National Preserve offers FREE ranger-led paddling trips. We provide the canoes/kayaks, paddles, and life jackets along with instruction. See below for the types of paddle programs that we offer.

Canoe Trip

FreeReservations Required: 409-951-6700

Join park rangers for a guided canoe trip on the scenic waterways of the preserve. This program targets the casual and novice paddler. Canoes, life jackets, and paddles are provided. Bring water, snacks, and water-ready shoes. The trips usually begin at 10:00 am and last 3–4 hours. Locations vary. Reservations open 2 weeks prior to the trip date.

Learn How to Paddle!

FreeNo Reservations

Would you like to learn how to paddle a canoe or kayak? Join a certified instructor at a paddling "clinic" to learn the basics of paddling and try it for a short distance on the river. All ages are welcome! Classes are offered periodically.

Custom Group Canoe/Kayak Trip

Free

Take your group, club, troop, or organization on a free ranger-led paddle trip through the Big Thicket! Whether you would like to use our canoes/kayaks or your own (or a mix of both), we can work with you to plan a trip. Custom trip requests must be made at least 6 weeks in advance.
