  • Hunter Registration Begins July 7

    Big Thicket National Preserve staff will begin issuing hunting permits for the 2014-2015 season on July 7, 2014, at the Preserve visitor center. The visitor center is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily. Please call 951-6700 for more information.

There is no lodging available in Big Thicket National Preserve. Lodging is available in nearby communities.


The communities of Woodville, Kountze, Silsbee and Beaumont, Texas, all offer lodging. There are also several bed and breakfast facilities adjacent to the Preserve.

Venomous Snake

Many kinds of snakes are found in the Big Thicket. Most are harmless, although the venomous cottonmouth, coral, copperhead, and various rattlesnakes do make this their home.
