Getting Here

Big Thicket National Preserve spreads across seven southeast Texas counties. The visitor center, in the middle of the Big Thicket region, is located at 6102 FM 420 in Kountze, Texas. There is no single entrance to the preserve, as it consists of many separate pieces of parkland called units. Read more about the places to go in Big Thicket.

A personal vehicle is essential for exploring the Big Thicket, as facilities and trailheads are often far apart. There is no public transportation in this area.

Some navigation systems have led travelers looking for the visitor center into the remote, unpaved woods of the Lance Rosier Unit.

Don't Get Lost!

Many navigational systems erroneously guide users to remote sections of the preserve. The official park map shows the major roads in the Big Thicket region. Please call the visitor center at (409) 951-6700 to verify directions to the visitor center and other locations in the preserve.
