Hunting Permits Issued Beginning July 8, 2013

The Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center is located at 6102 FM 420, Kountze, Texas. It is 8 miles north of Kountze and approximately 30 miles north of Beaumont via US 69/287. Many navigational systems erroneously guide users to remote sections of the preserve or to our former office in Beaumont. Please check your road map or call our visitor center at (409) 951-6700 to verify directions to the visitor center. |

The last southern black bear in the Big Thicket region was killed in 1928. These gentle omniivores may begin migrating back to southeast Texas due to reintroduction programs in Louisiana.
