    Hunter harvest cards must be returned to Big Thicket National Preserve by April 1, 2013. Hunters who do not return their cards by this date will not be issued a hunting permit for the 2013 hunting season. More »

Campgrounds

There are no developed campgrounds or RV hook-ups in Big Thicket National Preserve.

Visitors may get permits to backpack into certain park units or to camp on sandbars along the park waterways.

Campers must get a Backcountry Use Permit to camp in the backcountry. Permits must be obtained in person at the Visitor Center.

Ivory-billed Woodpecker

The ivory-billed woodpecker, once considered extinct, was last seen in the Big Thicket in 1967 near the Neches River.  Recent sightings in Arkansas give a glimmer of hope for its return.
