  • Woodlands Trail Closure

    The Woodlands Trail in the Big Sandy Creek Unit will be closed August 19-29 and September 2-12, 2014, while park staff and an AmeriCorps crew apply herbicide to trifoliate orange, an invasive non-native shrub that has become problematic in that area.

Firearms in National Parks Law

As of February 22, 2010, federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws to legally possess firearms in this NPS site.

It is the responsibility of visitors who carry firearms to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearm laws before entering this park.

Firearms are not allowed in certain facilities in Big Thicket National Preserve, including the visitor center. These facilities are marked with signs at all public entrances.

Did You Know?

Black Bear

The last southern black bear in the Big Thicket region was killed in 1928. These gentle omniivores may begin migrating back to southeast Texas due to reintroduction programs in Louisiana.
