The National Park Service has prepared the Big Thicket National Preserve Draft General Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement. The final day to submit ideas, comments, and concerns in reference to this plan is July 1. The last comprehensive management plan for Big Thicket National Preserve was completed in 1980. Much has changed since then, including the addition of 22% more land. As a result, visitor use and resource management needs have changed. These changes have implications for how visitors access and use Big Thicket National Preserve, how resources are managed, and how the National Park Service manages its operations.

Big Thicket National Preserve and the National Park Service urge the public to voice their ideas, comments, or concerns about this effort. The draft General Management Plan can be viewed at the PEPC website at www.parkplanning.nps.gov/bith. Limited copies are also available at the Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center at 6102 FM 420, Kountze, TX.

Comments can be submitted as follows:

  • By using the form on the PEPC website: www.parkplanning.nps.gov/bith
  • By letter to Superintendent, Big Thicket National Preserve, 6044 FM 420, Kountze, TX, 77625
  • By letter to Project Manager, Big Thicket National Preserve General Management Plan, National Park Service, Denvre Service Center - P, Erin Flanagan, PO Box 25287, Denver, CO, 80225
