Southeast Regional Director Patricia Hooks has signed the record of decision for the park's new general management plan (GMP).

“The signed Record of Decision finalizes a public planning process which has been on going for over eight years here at Big South Fork," said superintendent Reed Detring. "We now have a document which will guide the development and management of the park and its resources for the next 10 to 15 years.”

One component of the final GMP is the demarcation of an officially designated trail system within the park. The trail system as depicted on the plans maps shows the designated trails which will now be maintained to Park Service standards and those trails which will be developed in the future.

Persons interested in obtaining a printed copy or CD of the GMP may still do so by writing to Superintendent, Big South Fork NRRA, 4564 Leatherwood Road, Oneida, TN 37841, or by calling park headquarters at 423-569-9778. For persons with high speed internet connections, the plan may also be downloaded from www.nps.gov/biso .
