A 57-year-old man was found deceased on Friday, July 18, 2008 off the Angel Falls Trail. The man has tentatively been identified as John Thomas Morgan of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Mr. Morgan’s family contacted the Bowling Green Police Department on Tuesday, July 15, to report him overdue from a camping trip.  The Police Department contacted Big South Fork NRRA late Tuesday evening.  On Wednesday, the park received a description of the deceased’s vehicle.  It was located in the park that evening.  A hasty search of trails in the Angel Falls area was conducted on Thursday with no success.  On Friday morning, a full-scale search was begun and the body was located at approximately 12:20 p.m.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. The NPS is conducting an investigation.
