The Friends of Bear Paw, Big Hole & Canyon Creek Battlefields is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the National Park Service in preserving special places. The Nez Perce Trail Foundation is major supporter of the Nez Perce National Historic Trail that is administered by the United States Forest Service. Because the trail goes through the Big Hole Valley and the park, the National Park Service also works closely with the trail on special projects. Did You Know? Big Hole Battlefield became a National Monument in 1910. In 1933 the battlefield was added to the National Park service system. It remains sacred ground to the Nez Perce people to this day. more...
