Saturday, August 20th wraps up the summer speaker series at Big Hole National Battlefield. This weekend the Battlefield will feature Vivian Wilson. Vivian is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribe and has recently graduated from Lewis and Clark State College with a degree in history. She is currently a National Park Service employee, but previously worked for the Nez Perce Tribe for twenty years in their Finance Department. Vivian is the mother of three and currently lives at Lapwai, Idaho. Vivian's presentation focuses on the evolution of the Nez Perce home, from pit homes to modern day homes. This is a fun, interactive program. Great hands-on for everyone! Please bring your families and take advantage of this unique opportunity. Admission is free. Scheduled presentations will take place at the Battlefield Contact Station Saturday August 20th at noon and 3 p.m. and on Sunday, August 21st at noon. A campfire program will be given at the U.S. Forest Service May Creek Campground on Saturday at 7 p.m.The campground is located 7 miles west of Big Hole National Battlefield on Highway 43 |
Did You Know?
The two box elder trees in the Nez Perce camp area at Bear Paw Battlefield are the same trees that were there in 1877. Over the years they have died back or been burnt, but these hardy members of the maple family always grow back.
