NPS Big Hole National BattlefieldField TripsOur staff offers several different ranger-led field trips to meet your students' needs. Please note that guided battlefield tours are only offered when staffing is available and when trails are snow-free, which is typically late April to mid-October. To schedule a field trip, contact us. Coyote Camp Classroom VisitsFor 2026, Coyote Camp has been reformatted into a new classroom visit program. During this, one nımí·pu· (Nez Perce) presenter and one ranger will visit your classroom for an interactive presentation. The focus of the presentation and activity will be on living nımí·pu· culture and the Flight of 1877. Each visit will last one hour per class, with the option for our staff to visit multiple classrooms in a day. This program is available to schools within a 2-hour radius of the battlefield. Target grades for this visit are 4th – 8th. For more information, contact us.
NPS image Bear Paw BattlefieldStaff at the battlefield near Chinook, Montana offer several types of educational programs. Staffing at the battlefield is seasonal. Reservations are required for school groups who would like a ranger to visit their classroom or lead a guided tour of the battlefield. Educational programs can be tailored for any age group and topics can range from introductions to the Nez Perce people and culture to the Nez Perce Flight of 1877.
