Big Cypress National Preserve is preparing for landfall of Tropical Storm Fay. Effective 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 the Oasis Visitor Center and ORV Permit Office will be closed. All frontcountry campgrounds, including Midway, Pinecrest, Mitchell's Landing and Bear Island, will close as of 8:00 p.m. on August 17.

Facilities will remain closed until further notice as the threat of the storm passes and possible damage has been assessed.

Visitors will be allowed to access the backcountry of the preserve throughout this administrative closure. However, those venturing into the preserve should prepare for severe storm conditions, especially flooding, and keep themselves apprised of the location and movements of the tropical storm.

For further information on status of closure and details on when facilities may re-open please revisit the "News" page of the Preserve website.
