June Ranger Programs at Bighorn Canyon

Rangers at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area have a variety of campground programs and guided tours planned for the month of June on both the North End of the park and the South End of the park. There is a program for everyone this month. Times vary depending on the type of program. Please mark your calendars for these June programs: · June 5, Ranger Staebler will be presenting “A Slice Through Time” at the Amphitheater in Loop B at Horseshoe Bend at 9:30 pm. · June 12, Ranger Staebler will be presenting “The Undiscovered Jewel” at the Amphitheater in Loop B at Horseshoe Bend at 9:30 pm.
· June 13, Ranger Fleming will be leading a guided tour of the Lockhart Ranch. The tour will meet at the outhouse near the ranch at 1:00 pm. · June 18, Ranger Staebler will be presenting “Journey Through Bighorn Canyon and the Yellowtail Dam by a Drop of Water” at the Amphitheater in Loop B at Horseshoe Bend at 9:30 pm. · June 19, Ranger Staebler will be presenting “A Slice Through Time” at the Amphitheater in Loop B at Horseshoe Bend at 9:30 pm.
· June 20, Ranger Staebler will be leading a guided Geology walk. The tour will meet at the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center at 9:00 am and carpool into the park. · June 25, Ranger Staebler will be presenting “Our National Parks” at the Amphitheater in Loop B at Horseshoe Bend at 9:30 pm.
· June 27, Ranger Fleming will be leading a guided tour of the Hillsboro Ranch. The tour will meet at the Hilmont in the Barry’s Landing parking area at 1:00 pm. Did You Know?
Long before the Bighorn River was tamed by the Yellowtail Dam, the roiling waters through the canyon were feared. During spring snowmelt, the water turned into a raging torrent, a combination of whirlpools, rapids, and eddies.
