Bighorn LakeReady for Visitors
BighornCanyon National Recreation Area would like to announce that all boat ramps are open. Horseshoe Bend boat ramp opened Monday, May 14, 2007. The swim beach at Horseshoe Bend will open when lake levels reach 3625. The public docks at Horseshoe Bend are in. BighornCanyon continues to monitor the lake levels at Horseshoe Bend and will put in the concession docks as the lake levels rise. The public docks are also in at Barry’s Landing, and Ok-A-Beh Marina. The Concession docks are in at Ok-A-Beh, but are not available until the Marina opens Memorial Day Weekend. The Ok-A-Beh Marina will remain open until Labor Day weekend. This is the only place fuel can be purchased on BighornLake. Please plan accordingly.
Docks and the floating comfort station are in at Black Canyon Campground. The floating comfort station is available at BoxCanyon. Floating comfort stations will soon be located at Day Board 9, and Dryhead Creek. The docks and comfort station are not in at Medicine Creek at this time. The floating comfort station at Devil’s Canyon also remains out of the water.
As of May 15, 2007, the lake level was 3619.15. Although lake levels are higher, caution is still advised in side canyons as there may be submerged rocks, sandbars, and other hazards in these shallow areas. With spring inflows there can also be some areas where high concentrations of driftwood may be encountered.
All of the campgrounds are open. The dump and fill stations in the campgrounds are open, as well as the fish cleaning stations. All hiking trails are open and offer a variety of spring and summer scenery.
