Backcountry Roads and Campsites Re-Opened

Road surfacing and improvement work has been completed for the Glenn Springs, Maverick, and Pine Canyon backcountry roads within Big Bend National Park. These roads and the campsites along these roads have been re-opened to traffic for visitor enjoyment. The work on these roads included the addition of concrete mats in a low water crossing area on Maverick Road, as well as rock crushing and grading portions of Glenn Springs Road and the entirety of Pine Canyon Road.

The trail into Big Bend's Santa Elena Canyon crosses Terlingua Creek. Most of the year a dry creek bed, after rainstorms flash flooding of the creek can make the canyon inaccessible and close the nature trail. More...
