Road Resurfacing and Spot Reconstruction Project Continues on Baltimore-Washington Parkway between the District of Columbia Line and Route 450 (Annapolis Road); Expect Delays
Work continues on the roadway resurfacing and spot repair project on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (B/W Parkway).  The project consists of asphalt mill and, spot reconstruction, permanent signing, striping and other miscellaneous work. This roadway re-construction project will affect the B/W Parkway from the District of Columbia line at Route 50 to the interchange at Route 450 (Annapolis Road). The planned completion date for all work is mid-August 2012.  

Sunday, May 20 to Friday, May 25  (7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.) asphalt milling and paving operations will be conducted in the southbound left and center lanes of the Parkway between the Maryland Rte. 450 interchange and Kenilworth Avenue.  During this nightly work period, one lane will remain open at all times.  Work will be complete prior to the beginning of rush hour each day.  

The general schedule for construction is as follows: crews will work Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Night work will occur from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.  Ramp detours can also be expected during non-rush hour times.  During this construction period, when lane closures are needed, a minimum of one lane will remain open in both the northbound and southbound lanes at all times.

Variable Message Boards and construction signs will be posted during the entire construction period to alert the public of expected lane closure(s).  Motorists will be alerted at least one week in advance of lane closures during this construction period.

Road Resurfacing and Spot Reconstruction Project Continues on Baltimore-Washington Parkway
between the District of Columbia Line and Route 450 (Annapolis Road)  
to Begin Monday, May 21; Expect Delays

Work planned for Sunday, May 20 to Friday, May 25 (7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.) to asphalt mill and pave in the southbound left and center lanes of B/W Parkway between the Maryland Rte. 450 interchange and Kenilworth Avenue has been cancelled.

Instead Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22  (7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night) the south bound ramp at Route 450 will be closed for asphalt mill and paving operations.  The right lane adjacent to the ramp on south bound Route 450 will also be closed as part of the work. Operations will be complete prior to the beginning of rush hour traffic on Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23.  All travel lanes will be open prior to rush hour on both days.

This work is part of the ongoing roadway resurfacing and spot repair project on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (B/W Parkway).  This roadway re-construction project will affect the B/W Parkway from the District of Columbia line at Route 50 to the interchange at Route 450 (Annapolis Road). Sinkhole Repairs on the Left Shoulder Northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway near I-95/I-495
The National Park Service has closed the northbound left shoulder of the Baltimore/Washington Parkway (B/W Parkway) near the I-95/I-495 junction to set jersey barriers to repair a sinkhole.

Repairs being performed on the roadway's shoulder, are expected to be completed in approximately 13-days (March 20, 2012), weather permitting.

Construction crews will work on the left shoulder of the B/W Parkway and will not interfere with traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution as construction crews will be entering and leaving the work zone. Construction signs are in place to alert the public of the expected lane closure.

The approach shoulder pavement and sub-base, portions of the approach walls, and the curb will be removed, embankment placed and compacted to bring the sub-grade up to the proper grade before a new shoulder, sub-base and approach pavements are placed.  The sinkhole repairs will prevent water accumulation and further degradation of the soil around the sinkhole.

Temporary Lane Closure on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway


Washington, D.C. -  On Saturday, April 7, 2012, t he National Park Service (NPS) will begin a temporary northbound left-lane closure at  Route I-295 (Kenilworth Avenue) ramp to the
Baltimore/Washington Parkway.  The lane closure will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for approximately 8 hours only .

This lane closures is part of the NPS' routine brush removal and litter pick-up on the ramp.  All work will occur in the left lane only.  The right lane traveling northbound on the ramp will remain open at all times.
 
Signs and cones will be posted to advise motorists of the closure and expected delays.

Inclement weather may require adjustments to the schedule, including the possibility of postponement.  The NPS will continue to inform the public and the media of any adjustments in the work schedule.  Every effort is being made to minimize traffic delays and accomplish the work in a timely manner. The NPS regrets any inconvenience and appreciates all motorists' understanding and patience.
