Access by Shuttle Bus Only
Starting May 24, 2013 all access to the most visited part of the park, Frijoles Canyon, will be via a mandatory shuttle bus from the nearby community of White Rock from 9 AM - 3 PM daily. Private cars may drive in before 9 AM or after 3 PM. More »

Related Requirements 11a. Write a plan for a backpacking trek of at least five days. 11b. Using Leave No Trace principles, take the trek 11c. Write a report Available Resources Bandelier has over 70 miles of backpacking trails. It is a packer’s paradise. If you choose to hike and camp in the back country of the park you must obtain a Backcountry Permit. These are available at the Visitor Center at no cost. Be prepared to outline your itinerary to the ranger who writes the permit. You must carry a topographical map of the park and know how to use it. |
Did You Know?
Hummingbirds use a combination of plant material, lichens, and moss held together by spider webs to make a flexible nest. This nest can expand to meet the needs of the growing chicks.
