Access to Frijoles Canyon Will Be Limited
Starting June 1, 2012 all access to the most visited part of the park, Frijoles Canyon, will be via a shuttle bus from the nearby community of White Rock. This is to alleviate a parking shortage created by the Las Conchas Fire. More details to follow.

NPS Photo by Stella Carroll Lower ledge trail Follow the lower ledge to return to the rock platform near the beginning of the trail. There are many places with sharp drop-offs. Be careful of your footing, and keep children close. As you walk back toward you car, watch and listen for the wildlife that lives at Tsankawi. On a summer day, colorful lizards sun themselves on the warm rocks. Looking closely, you may spot the bright blue belly of a male fence lizard. Don’t approach too closely or the lizard may try to intimidate you by doing what appears to be pushups. In the winter, ravens often soar overhead taking advantage of updrafts near the mesas |
