Aztec Ruins to Host Annual Evening of Lights
Every year Aztec Ruins hosts an Evening of Lights to celebrate New Mexico traditions. Watch a winter solstice alignment, stroll through luminaria and lantern displays, watch cultural demonstrators work on traditional crafts, and warm up with hot cocoa and cookies.

Aztec Ruins Receives Grant to Retrace Part of Old Spanish Trail
Aztec Ruins received a Connecting Trails to Parks grant to research the Old Spanish Trail near Aztec, design a section of the National Historic Trail as a multi-use trail from historic downtown Aztec into the national monument, and tell the story of the Old Spanish Trail in waysides and other media.

Citizenship Ceremony
The National Park Service and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services partnered to host a citizenship ceremony in the Great Kiva at Aztec Ruins. The new citizens hailed from five different countries, including Canada, Ecuador, Germany, Honduras, and Mexico.

Did You Know?

The significance of unique green stripes along western walls at Aztec Ruins is a mystery. The greywacke stone was hauled from nearby quarries. We can only guess at reasons for the inclusion by the original masons.
