Fall
color in Zion usually begins with the aspens in Zion's high
country changing color in early to mid October. Next are
the hardwoods of Zion's east side and finally the riparian
trees at the bottom of Zion Canyon, which are the most impressive
in terms of color and which usually peak in early November.
Here one finds an overstory of golden cottonwoods covering
a variety of decidious trees that turn varying shades of
red, yellow and orange.
If
staffing is available this page will be updated every few
days during November.
November 5, 2004 - Fall color is at its peak in Zion Canyon from Temple of Sinawava to Zion Canyon Visitor Center. In higher elevations such as Zion's eastside, colors are past peak, but still noticeable.
November 15, 2004 - Most of the peak color in Zion Canyon has passed, although some good fall colors remain along the Virgin River south of Zion along Highway 9.
