The Draft Yosemite Valley Housing Plan

The draft Yosemite Valley Housing Plan is out for public review through April 1 (the review period was extended due to the January flood). The plan is a Draft Addendum to the 1992 Housing Plan Environmental Impact Statement that proposed, along with four other alternatives, adding substantial housing in Foresta. After public review showed a very strong opposition to that proposal, the NPS revised the plan with new proposals focusing on El Portal for housing employees and administrative offices. This is the proposed action in the plan now on review.

After public review, the Draft Housing Plan will be finalized. A new opportunity that will be considered in finalization of the plan is a long-term leasing authority now available to the National Park Service. Recent legislation has provided the Park the possibility to enter into agreements with developers to provide, on land outside the park, the variety of housing required for park and concession employees.
