North Pines & Lower Pines Electric Rehab

Kelly White/ Don Coon

Yes

Yes

Project was originally discussed at Planning Clearinghouse in February 2002. At that time, the proponent was asked to evaluate another alternative, bringing the line across Clark's Bridge rather than under the river in the current alignment. In April 2002, the proponent reported that it would cost an additional $275,000 to bring the line across Clark's Bridge. A new route was proposed that would continue to bring the line under the river in its current location, with additional trenching in existing road prisms. The proponent was directed to fit the utility alignment in to the long-term vision for the area.

Cultural resource data recovery took place in 1988 for the original realignment, as part of the Environmental Assessment, Rehabilitate Electrical System Phase 9A. Review the original analysis to ensure that cultural resource impacts were evaluated for the new footprint. If the proposed new realignment would take place outside of what was previously evaluated, new cultural resource analysis must take place.

Resources management is directed to work with the Utility Shop to track erosion on the north bank of the Merced River near North Pines CG through high water of 2002. After high water, evaluate the need for an organic revetment system on the north bank.

Prune/Remove Encroaching Trees Along Roadways

Brian Mattos

Yes

Pending

For roadside tree thinning within the Merced River corridor, project proponent must contact the Resource Management Division (cultural and natural resource staff) before initiation of work to evaluate trees on an individual basis. Determine whether trees could be felled and left in place to retain woody debris in the ecosystem and insure that trees are not important roosting or nesting sites for special status species.

For projects that would remove more than three trees in a project site, the following steps should apply:  1. Consult with Resource Management staff. 2. Consult with Compliance staff, who will recommend action. 3. Confirm with Assistant Superintendent (Chip Jenkins) who will either approve project or bring to park management.
