Abstract
This
Curry Village and East Yosemite
Valley Campground Improvements Project Environmental Assessment
is intended to guide comprehensive improvements to the Curry
Village and East
Yosemite Valley campground area, located in the far eastern
portion of Yosemite Valley. The project would
implement concepts and actions as proposed in the Yosemite Valley
Plan. This document identifies and evaluates three alternatives:
the No Action Alternative and two action alternatives.
Alternative
1 represents conditions
and management practices as they currently exist in Curry
Village and the East
Yosemite Valley campground area. It provides the basis
for comparison of each action alternative. The action alternatives
(Alternatives 2 and 3)
are based on the purpose of and need for the project and conform to
the goals of the Yosemite National Park’s General
Management Plan and Yosemite
Valley Plan.
Pursuant
to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, this document analyzes the environmental
effects of the project alternatives on resources and visitors. Based
on the issues and concerns identified during the public scoping process,
impact analyses focus on natural and cultural resources, scenic resources,
transportation, visitor experience, and the social and economic environments.
Analyses include the identification and characterization of direct
and indirect effects of each alternative, as well as evaluation of
cumulative effects of the project alternatives in conjunction with
other past, present, and reasonably foreseeable future actions.
