21 Aug 2004 Overdue Hiker Found in Yosemite National Park
The Virga family pauses to thank Fresno County Search and Rescue team member Phil Lodge. The Fresno County team was part of an interagency search effort to find Michael Virga. She lost the John Muir Trail and was reported overdue by her husband. The Fresno County searchers were able to locate Virga after making voice contact with her.

7 Jun 2004 Yosemite National Park Takes Strides to Contain Invasive Yellow Star Thistle

Yosemite National Park employees Don Schweizer and Mike Mari mow yellow star thistle in El Portal. [700 kb JPG]

Consistent treatment along the Highway 140 corridor in El Portal after three years been successful in Yosemite National Park. [400 kb JPG]

Yellow star thistle had completed invaded the saddle at Moss Creek in El Portal by 1998. [3.7 MB JPG]

Yosemite Association “Weed Warrior” volunteers remove yellow star thistle on the Moss Creek saddle in 2001. After three years of consistent treatment, crews typically need only to remove isolated patches of the invasive weed. [1.5 MB JPG]
