Yosemite
National Park Continues to Decrease Bear Incidents |
An untagged
bear usually indicates that the bear forages for its natural food
in the wild rather than going to human food sources. If the bear
has been "tagged" by NPS wildlife biologists, the tag
will be visible on one of the ears. Photos by David Riggle.

Famous
Jeffrey Pine Falls on Sentinel Dome-Yosemite National Park |
One of the
most photographed trees in Yosemite National Park, the Jeffrey pine
on the summit of Sentinel Dome, fell last week. Although the tree
died as a result of the severe drought of 1976-77, people continued
to admire its poetic beauty and unique formation. The National Park
Service does not know what final stress caused the tree to fall,
but severe storms in the Sierra Nevada in early August may have
contributed to the last part of the tree's natural process of life,
death, and fall.
