March 29, 2006
For Immediate Release

Yosemite National Park and the Stanislaus National Forest Announce an Extension on the Public Scoping Comment Period for the Hetch Hetchy Communications System Upgrade Project

The National Park Service (NPS) has received a request from the public to extend the public scoping comment period for the Hetch Hetchy Communications System Upgrade Project.

In response to this public request the public scoping comment period has been extended by 14 days.

The proposed project would replace or update components of the communications system throughout Tuolumne County, including potentially adding one new site within Yosemite National Park and another new site within Stanislaus National Forest. A system upgrade would improve radio communications vital to Hetch Hetchy Water &Power, Yosemite National Park, and Stanislaus National Forest operational activities such as law enforcement, search and rescue, fire management, and dam security.

The public review and comment period was initially scheduled for February 21, 2006 through March 27, 2006. Comments will now be accepted through April 10, 2006.

Written comments to this proposal are invited in order to help identify significant issues that may be associated with the proposed action. Letters must be postmarked no later than April 10, 2006 and mailed to either one of the following offices:
