Yosemite National Park Kicks off National Park Week With Earth Day Celebration

Yosemite National Park will celebrate Earth Day with a variety of stewardship and educational activities intended to improve the visitor's understanding of the park. The Earth Day celebration is presented by Yosemite National Park and partners including DNC Parks and Resorts in Yosemite, Inc., The Ansel Adams Gallery, The Yosemite Fund, the Yosemite Institute, and the Yosemite Association.

Among the variety of activities offered on Earth Day are:

  • Volunteer stewardship projects, including non-native plant removal
  • A celebration on the mall in Yosemite Village, including displays on sustainability practices and resource issues in Yosemite National Park
  • "Pedal, Play, and Preserve" scavenger hunt on bikes
  • Special day and evening interpretive and education programs, including a twilight stroll and poetry reading with Ranger Margaret Eissler.

Visitors can call 209/372-0200 for more information on Earth Day activities. Information is also available at www.nps.gov/yose.

Visitors who travel to the park in alternative fuel vehicles will receive complimentary admission on Earth Day. These visitors should inform the ranger at the entrance station that they are driving an alternative fuel vehicle.
