Teacher Resources: Visiting the Park

Mountain driving is very different than driving in other terrain. Many park visitors drive either too fast or too slow. The speed limit in most of Yosemite is 35 mph. If you are not comfortable driving that fast, please use turnouts as a courtesy to those behind you.

When You Arrive: Driving Tips

Bicyclists in the ParkBe alert to:

  • rocks on the road
  • wet or icy roads
  • wildlife crossing the road
  • bicyclists and pedestrians

Be courteous!

  • stay on the right side of the road
  • use turnouts to allow other vehicles to pass
  • find a turnout if you need to consult a map or stop for any reason
  • pull off the road completely to enjoy the views

Obey speed limits.

TIRE CHAINS MAY BE REQUIRED AT ANY TIME FROM OCTOBER THROUGH JUNE.
