Nez Perce Memorial

Members of the Nez Perce Tribe conducted a memorial ceremony near Nez Perce Creek at the end of Fountain Flat Drive on August 21. The ceremony commemorated the 800 Nez Perce who endured the hardships of a 1,170 mile trek from Oregon through Yellowstone National Park to northern Montana. The memorial included songs honoring those in the 1877 conflict and other veterans, a pipe ceremony, and Nez Perce in traditional regalia and on horses commemorating their ancestors that trekked through the park in 1877.
