This
Month in Yellowstone
Nez Perce Memorial

Head Drummer Pete Wilson, left, and Donnie Powaukee, whipman, perform
at the ceremony. Pete and Donnie are descendants of Peopeo Tholekt
(Bird Alighting). He was one of the band leaders that came through Yellowstone
in 1877. A whipman in the old days kept order during ceremonial occasions.
Today they keep order at powwows and events such as the August 21st memorial.
