Fort Yellowstone From the Drill Field

When the panorama fills the black box, place your mouse cursor
on the picture, hold the mouse button down, and drag.

This panorama begins with a view of the Bachelor Officers' Quarters which today houses the Albright Visitor Center exhibits.  An object-movie of an Army-era padlock (106 K) removed from a door on this building is available for you to view. Pan to the right, using your mouse, to see the following features:

•A row of red-roofed buildings known as Officers' Row. These were the residences of married officers. Most were duplexes with the exception of the Field Officer's Quarters.

•Capitol Hill - Just beyond the Army Drill Field

•Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces in the distance

•The Mammoth Dining Room

•The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel

•The stone building that has a Japanese flavor to its design was the Army Corps of Engineers building. Due to its architectural style it is commonly called the Pagoda. The Corps was instrumental in building the roads and bridges that made Yellowstone National Park accessible to the public.

•Behind the Pagoda is the building that houses the Yellowstone Association offices.

•The two-story structure to the right of the Pagoda is a residence building for hotel and dining room employees.

•The hotel and dining room are operated by Xanterra Parks & Resorts.
