Women's Rights National Historical Park Release Date: June 25, 2002 ENJOY
THE SUMMER AT THE NATIONAL PARK IN YOUR BACKYARD, SENECA FALLS AND WATERLOO Planning a close-to-home vacation this year? Visit the national park in your own backyard! Womens Rights National Historical Park has planned a summer full of events for the whole family. Many of the events will be held on Thursday evenings as part of the Seneca Falls Merchants and Museums Downtown Evenings programs. On those evenings, (July 11, 18 and 25) the downtown museums and businesses will remain open until 7 p.m. Some events will also take place at the MClintock House and Hunt House, park sites in Waterloo. We want to welcome not only the hundreds of visitors who come to the area every summer, but also provide an opportunity for local people who may just be coming home from work, to visit their national park, said Ranger Jack Shay. These are fun and interesting events about things that happened in our backyards. Summer programs begin at noon on July 4 with old-fashioned Independence Day observances. The public is invited to dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and a politician of the 1840s will lead a discussion of the relevance of those documents today after the readings in Declaration Park. Other programs during the summer include dramatic presentations, songs, open houses at the Suffrage Print Shop, and a look at the lives of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jane Hunt, Lucretia Mott, and other leaders of the womens rights movement. Special events are planned for Convention Days, July 18-21, 2002. PATRIOTIC
