Rights NHP In a presentation hosted in Declaration Park on Friday, April 28 at Women's Rights NHP, Lt. Governor Mary O. Donohue announced more than $235,000. of grants for four projects in Seneca County, including a project at Women's Rights NHP. The funding for the grants was made available from both the Environmental Protection Fund and the Clean Water/Clean Air Bond act. "These grants will help communities in Seneca County improve and restore structures, landmarks, and recreational sites that reflect New York's heritage and are enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts", said Lt. Governor Donohue, who chairs Governor George Pataki's Task Force on Quality Communities. Together with grants to the Towns of Seneca Falls and Waterloo, and to the historic Trinity Church in Seneca Falls, Women's Rights NHP received $36,554. to complete its restoration of the historic M'Clintock House. Restoration work will include interior walls, molding and finishes of period historic significance, 1836-1856. The structure is one of three critically important resources associated with the First Women's Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls on July 19-20, 1848. Senator Michael F. Nozzolio said, "This funding will assist our communities in preserving, protecting, and honoring the unique culture and history that has shaped our region and enhanced the spirit of our communities". Restoration work on the interior of the M'Clintock House began in earnest this spring, spearheaded by a $185,000 grant from the Save America's Treasures fund and a matching donation by author Barbara Goldsmith. This state grant will assist in the restoration of the house interior to it's mid 19th Century appearance when it was used for the planning of the First Women's Rights Convention in 1848.
