Seneca Falls, NY

Women's Rights National Historical Park will present a discussion on the life and work of Judge Daniel Cady, father of women's rights advocate Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Judge Cady was admitted to the bar in 1796 and practiced for over 50 years, concluding his career as a Justice on the New York State Supreme Court. During that time he witnessed and participated in the development of American legal concepts beyond the inherited English Common Law and established himself as a jurist with few equals.

In addition to a discussion on the Judge's life and accomplishments, the park will "unveil" the recently conserved portrait of Judge Cady. Long kept stored in a deteriorated condition, the portrait and frame were painstakingly restored by a local conservation firm which will speak about the work they performed.

Jude M. Pfister, curator, will host the discussion which will include Warren Redlich, Esq., who will share insights on Judge Cady he has gathered through his research; and John Sutton, lead conservator who oversaw the operation to restore the painting and frame.
