SIGN UP FOR DEMOCRACY AT CINCINNATI’S NATIONAL PARK SITE

Visitors to William Howard Taft National Historic Site will be able to join millions of Americans across the country in celebrating National Constitution Week as they sign the United States “constitution” during special ceremonies from September 15-21. A giant parchment replica of the document will be displayed at the boyhood home of William Howard Taft, who was the tenth Chief Justice of the United States after serving as the 27th President. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 17, when Hamilton County Court of Appeals Judge Mark Painter will speak on the importance of the constitution and join students from Taft, Hyde Park, Bramble, Fairview Elementary Schools, and the International College Preparatory Academy in the ceremonial signing. Local, state, and national lawmakers have been invited to attend. Students will also compete in an essay contest on what the constitution means to them. Park Superintendent Kevin McMurry stated “William Howard Taft was a student of law throughout his adult life and illustrious political career. He leaves our nation, and in fact the entire world, with a legacy of evenly, and equally administering justice based on law that is traced directly back to the United States Constitution.” Superintendent McMurry continued with “I encourage the public to join us in celebration of this day with the students and leaders from all levels of Government.” William Howard Taft National Historic Site is located at 2038 Auburn Avenue and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for more information, please call 513-684-3262. Driving directions are available at www.nps.gov/wiho. The National Park Service cares for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage. Experience your America
