Earth
Aid Video
Objective:
This
activity is a wrap up of the previous activities and a review
of the
importance of water on our planet.
Materials:
- A copy of Earth
Aid video.
Earth Aid Video
This video focuses
on how to help improve water quality. It features Ed Begley, Jr. demonstrating
a wealth of innovating tips on water conservation that cost us nothing
but can save up to 50% of the water used by each of us. Some of the
simple ways to conserve our water use, and pollute less are:
- not leaving the
faucet running.
- putting displacement
devices in toilets.
- watering lawns
less frequently and more efficiently.
- installing low-flow
faucet aerators.
- installing low-flow
shower heads.
The video reviews
concepts from earlier units, such as: even though the world is mostly
covered with water, very little of it is drinking water. To limit polluting
that drinking water, the video suggests not pouring pollutants such
as oil or paint in places where it can reach the ground water, and using
soaps that do not contain phosphates.
Discussion:
- Students should
review earlier lessons.
- Students should
discuss how to conserve water more carefully.
- How can they conserve
water at home? At school?
